In this ultimate Osaka hotel guide, we’ve carefully chosen the top hotels and hostels in Osaka that can fit your travel budget and your needs.

Which area is best to stay in Osaka?

In my 10 years of travelling internationally, I’ve been to Osaka for 5x as of February 2024, and I’ve stayed at all the famous districts in the city.

It’s also one of the reasons why I’m given a multiple-entry visa with Japan for 3x now. My latest multiple-entry visa in Japan is good for 5 years, just like my multiple-entry South Korea visa. 🙂

Osaka is a real charmer, and where you should stay depends on the kind of vibe you’re after.

Based on my previous stays in Osaka as a tourist, the best areas to stay in Osaka for first-timer are the neighborhoods of Dotonbori (Namba), Umeda and Universal Studios City.

Dotonbori (Namba)

If you’re a foodie (who isn’t in Osaka?), Dotonbori is your food wonderland.

Neon lights, street food, and that famous Glico Running Man sign – it’s food paradise. Plus, you’re right in the middle of the action.

Namba is a food lover’s paradise, offering a wide range of kid-friendly eateries and local treats, ensuring that even picky eaters will find something delightful.

I usually stay in Dotonbori area with my loved ones because we’re foodie travelers.

I remember my favorite part about staying in Dotonbori area is waking up at 3AM and just going out to eat at Ichiran Ramen Dotonbori because it’s open 24 hours!

Best Hotels in Osaka for Families – DOTONBORI Area

  • Family Mart on the ground floor
  • 24-hr udon shop and Matsuya beef rice shop nearby

Umeda

As a professional traveler, I find Umeda as one of the best places to stay in Tokyo for first-time travelers, especially if you’re a fan of visiting tourist attractions but staying for less than a week only.

You can go to Umeda Sky Building, offering panoramic views of the city from its Floating Garden Observatory. Or, you can check out the historic Osaka Station, which is actually filled with popular shopping and dining hubs! (Our faves are Piccolo Curry and Uosa sushi!)

Honestly, you can spend the whole day exploring Osaka Station in Umeda and it still won’t be enough.

Universal Studios City (Bay Area)

We absolutely LOVE Universal Studios!

In Singapore, we’ve been to Universal Studios Singapore for SO many times — I think 5x — since theme parks are definitely travel bucket lists for us.

Of course, the same can be said for Osaka.

I feel like a kid whenever I visit Universal Studios Japan (USJ) because of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can immerse yourself in the magic of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade and also the Universal Spectacle Night Parade and the Waterworld stunt show!

That’s why if you’re going to Osaka and you have kids with you, then you definitely need to go to USJ and even book a hotel near the theme park so you can visit it in its full glory!

Best Hotels in Tokyo for Families – Universal Studios City (Bay Area)

🤩 LIBER HOTEL AT UNIVERSAL STUDIO JAPAN

  • Just across JR Sakurajima station which is a station away from JR Universal Station (USJ)
  • Vending machine, coin washing machine, spa, and massage chair inside the hotel
  • With USJ shop in the lobby

Pro Tip: If you want a hotel in Osaka that’s super near USJ but still quiet, this hotel if your best bet! Also, make sure to book this WAAY in advance. It’s popular to tourists since it’s fully-booked all the time!
